The Preparatory Department for foreign citizens of KNLU is the only basic department in Ukraine which specializes in humanities. The annual intake of foreign students amounts more than 100 people. The students come from different countries such as China, Korea, Japan, Turkey, Middle East countries, Western Europe, the USA and others. Our graduates have successfully showed themselves in the spheres of philology, diplomacy, economics, painting, stage direction, cinema making and art.

The lecturers of the Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens are experienced and qualified tutors in teaching foreign students.

The task of the Preparatory Department is to teach foreigners the Russian (Ukrainian) language and prepare them for entering the Department of Slavic Philology at KNLU or other Ukrainian Universities.

When foreign students graduate from the Preparatory Department, they get a Certificate of the established standard in Ukraine which enables them to study at Ukrainian Universities.

The Curriculum includes the following subjects: Russian (Ukrainian), Phonetics of the Russian (Ukrainian) language, Russian (Ukrainian) Literature, History of Ukraine, and Geography.

Learning Russian goes on in extra curriculum time. Tours round Kiev and Ukraine, visiting museums, theaters and exhibition halls contribute to effective mastering this language.

TRAINING FACILITIES. Foreign students study in a new modern building. There are reading halls, computer classrooms, language laboratories, libraries, a gym, a canteen, a cafeteria and a student's club. Students are supplied with all necessary academic books. Academic groups consist of 12 students of different nationalities.


ACCOMMODATION. All students of the Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens are provided with hostel accommodation.

DURATION OF TRAINING. The academic year runs from September, 1 to June, 30 with Christmas winter break.

ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE. Foreign students are enrolled on the basis of individual official Invitations of the established standard in Ukraine given by Kyiv National Linguistic University. Invitations are issued from March, 15 to October, 15. Within 3 working days the selection committee of KNLU will answer about the possibility of an applicant’s learning, prepare an invitation if the answer is positive and explain the procedure of visa support payment. After getting a registration number of an invitation it’s necessary to pay visa support in a bank or online (http://intered.com.ua/en).

The list of the documents required for admission to the preparatory department for Foreign Citizens of the Department of Slavic Philology of KNLU

  1. The original of an invitation for study from the university.
  2. The original and two notarized copies of a document of the previous education.
  3. The original and two notarized copies of grades to a diploma (certificate).
  4. A notarized copy of a birth certificate.
  5. Three notarized copies of a passport (a page with a photo).
  6. A notarized copy of a medical certificate of health.
  7. 12 photos in size 3,5х4,5 (colored, matte).

The documents mentioned in p. 2, 3, 4, 6 are to be certified in accordance with the legislation of the country of issue and legalized in the order established by the state bodies of Ukraine unless other documents are stipulated by international treaties of Ukraine.
